November 2015 - El Mangle | reflexión y acción
From November 17-19, a team of faculty and students from UC Irvine’s Samueli School of Engineering and the School of Social Ecology are partnering with the Blum Center for Poverty Alleviation and traveling to La Paz, Mexico to develop a field site for students to learn about and work on poverty in the region through urban and child development. The team expects to build connections that will lead to research opportunities and consider how to best utilize the groups collective resources to achieve the most beneficial impact in the community. In building this new partnership with El Mangle the team wants to understand how the campus can be a useful platform for research. Those in attendance include Dr. Richard Matthew, Dr. Victoria Basolo, Dr. Maria Rendon, Dr. Shannon Curry, Dr. Jodi Quas, Dr. Ruth Gyllenhammer, and PhD Canditiates – Kristin Goodrich and Jochen Schubert of FloodRISE, and local organizations such as NOS, Niparajá, Ponguinguiola, Urbanería, Bcsicletos, CIBNOR, Cómo Vamos La Paz, FANLAP y Raíz de Fondo.
